Ukraine and Romania are cooperating on the creation of a new checkpoint

The Government of Ukraine has officially decided to open a new crossing point “Bila Tserkva (Transcarpathian region) – Sighetu Marmatsia” on the border with Romania.

The long-awaited negotiations between the Ukrainian and Romanian parties regarding the creation of such a checkpoint have been going on for several years. Since the existing bridge at the “Solotvyno – Sigetu Marmatsia” crossing point is in critical condition, a decision was made to create a new route between Bila Tserkva (Transcarpathian region) and Sigetu Marmatsia. The National Customs Service has developed a project for this checkpoint and has already found a suitable plot of land for its construction. According to the agreement, the Bila Tserkva-Sziget Marmatsia checkpoint will be used for automobile and cargo-passenger transportation.

The checkpoint will be opened after the construction of all the necessary infrastructure, including the construction of the bridge, is completed. After commissioning, the international checkpoint “Solotvyno – Sigetu Marmatsiei” will be designated only for pedestrians.

The customs service continues to expand the network of checkpoints shared with the EU to improve trade relations.

Currently, trade volumes between Ukraine and Romania are constantly growing. Romania plays an important role among Ukraine’s partners and is linked by close economic relations. Even in difficult times, such as the war, economic cooperation was strengthened thanks to the opening of the “Krasnoirsk-Vic de Sous” and “Dyakivtsi-Rakovets” checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Romanian border.
