Risks of food theft in the supply chain

The high risk of food theft in the global supply chain is one of the most pressing concerns for businesses: according to the BSI Supply Chain Risk Insight Report 2023, this segment is a target for criminals, with food and drink accounting for 22% of all thefts. This is significantly higher than the previous years, when the figure was 17% in 2022 and 14% in 2021.

Analysts say this trend suggests that food theft is becoming an increasingly serious problem as prices rise and demand stabilizes. One of the main reasons for this growth is the growing importance of essential goods.

However, despite these risks, companies can take certain steps to ensure food safety. These include improving tracking and monitoring systems, using the latest technologies to prevent theft and increasing transparency at all stages of the supply chain. It is also important to train staff on security procedures and plan for possible theft to ensure optimal protection of goods at all stages of the supply chain.
