Memorandum between Adif and Ukrzaliznytsia: New technologies for Ukrainian railways

The Spanish operator of railway infrastructure, Adif, and the national railway company of Ukraine, Ukrzaliznytsia, signed a memorandum of cooperation for the implementation of an innovative pilot project. This project involves the application of advanced technology of automatic adjustment of wheel pairs in freight rolling stock, specially developed for broad-gauge railways.

Originally developed to provide a seamless transition between different gauge standards, this technology will be refined for use on wide gauge gauges – 1520mm, as well as 1435mm and 1668mm. The goal is to automate the process of adjusting the width of the wheel pair to increase the efficiency and safety of freight transportation.

As part of this agreement, both parties also plan to jointly attract funding from the European Union for the successful implementation of the project. In addition, cooperation in the development of high-speed railway traffic in Ukraine is envisaged. For this purpose, the features of the European railway infrastructure, the traffic management system and other key parameters that are taken into account during the implementation of this strategic project will be analyzed in detail.

The signing of the memorandum paves the way for fruitful cooperation between the Spanish and Ukrainian railway giants aimed at modernization and increasing the competitiveness of Ukrainian railways.
