Transportation of dangerous goods is one of the most difficult tasks in logistics

Some customers of dangerous goods transportation services are surprised to hear the news that the cost of the procedure is slightly higher than the transportation of standard cargo or containers. Like, the technology is so good, drivers are experienced and insurance is – why pay extra?
In fact, everything is not as simple as it seems at first glance. And now we will try to disclose the specifics of the transportation of dangerous goods, in other words, to talk about the problems and the underhand process.

Questions to the state

According to the law of Ukraine under the number 2608-VI, the licensing of cargo transportation is canceled. The rule also applies to dangerous goods, but only if the person, the juror, transports them for their own needs. Consequently, the Logistics company spends a lot of time and energy to agree on a license, and we keep a tactful silence about the number of certificates required by the regulator and the complexity of obtaining them. We will add only that the treasured paper does not even give the right to carry out international transportation. It can be obtained only after three years of practice in Ukraine.

Admissions of staff

Of course, the experience of the driver means a lot in the success of the case, and they must be trained in working with dangerous goods of various categories, at least for the purpose of improving safety. But, according to the norms, in an enterprise that works with “dangerous” transportation there must be separate authorized persons on security issues, necessarily with a higher education.
Without presentation of the diploma, the employee will not be allowed to undergo special training at the SAI (from the driver it is required to present a work record book with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the category). As you might have guessed, courses, preparation for exams and additional lectures (for drivers working with cargoes 1-7 degrees of danger) is paid by the company. Plus, every 5 years, you need to pass the re-certification.

Requirements for TS

Here everything is logical and understandable. Machines are supplied with ADR-kit, information tables and signs, repair tools, fire extinguishers, shoes, etc. Absence of any element is a serious reason for the “tracers” (traffic police), therefore, the observance of standards is more than carefully monitored.
If it is planned to transport radioactive, explosive substances, dangerous liquid cargo (in tanks), the vehicle leaves the flight only after checking, inspection and obtaining admission to the SAI. Is it worth mentioning the laboriousness of the process, even in the case of a fully serviceable and usable vehicle?

Aligning the route

The cargo of the 1st-7th class of danger follows only the routes coordinated with the traffic police, and, from the logistic agent, it is required to exclude settlements, roads near architectural monuments, industrial, recreational zones, educational institutions, hospitals, etc., if possible. Places of parking, refueling, speed are also negotiated.
Thus the permission is given out on 1 travel and not the fact that it will be received from the first time or received in general. The role is played by the experience of the logistician, the reputation and connections of the company, the position in the market, and, of course, the weather in the offices of officials.
