Until two years ago through Ukraine held a significant portion of goods from west to east and from north to south, but the geopolitical situation prevented the further development directions. In order to understand the situation, we will briefly look at a few ambitious transit projects, which was launched in 2016.
New Silk Road – stillborn hope
Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan has successfully signed a cooperation agreement, we developed a route by which the train will run from the Chinese border to the port of Batumi, after which the goods are transported by sea in Ukraine, extending transit country on the way to the EU.
As planned, the project had a positive impact on the development of the railway and port infrastructure of the country, and Europe would have received goods from China in just 9 days, which is much faster shipping by sea. In fact, start all over trial ended, which barely filled the empty and drove back a couple of months. Project participants continue to ponder his future.
The train “Viking” inspires positive
One of the few optimistic moments in the history of attempts to use the transport potential of the country – a train on the route “Viking” – from the Black Sea to the Baltic States via Belarus. Volume direction – up to one million tonnes of cargo.
Direction appeared promising because of Azerbaijan. “Viking” transports oil arriving at Azerbaijani tankers to refineries in Belarus. Quality and delivery speed are satisfied with the parties, and the Deputy Prime Minister even Zubko said the launch of an additional line trains.
Sorry, but examples like “Viking” bit. In an attempt to define the objectives and to improve the situation, in mid-November at the Ukrainian House in Kyiv discussed the “Transport Strategy 2020”. Contrary to expectations, the top managers of logistics companies and foreign investors, concrete answers to the pressing questions no one was at the event. But there were beautiful presentation objectives, priorities and principles.
However, according to Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan, things are not so bad. Discussions will continue until all the interested parties do not form a road map, which will be supported in the coming years.
