Ukraine is located in Eastern Europe and is at the crossroads of transport routes from Europe to Asia and from the Scandinavian countries in the Mediterranean region. Such geographical location influences the active foreign economic activity. Huge cargo of various types of cargo passes through the territory of Ukraine. Ukraine is an agrarian country and first among freight traffic occupied by the production of the agricultural industry. For 2015. Ukrainian agrarians collected nearly 63.8 million tons of grain and cereal crops of which 34.8 million tonnes were exported. Also, Ukraine ranks third among the world’s largest exporters of grain, behind only the US and the EU.
One of the major market segments of Ukraine’s exports constitute a timber and lumber. Huge amounts of forestry products exported from Ukraine in neighboring countries such as Poland, Slovakia and Romania. The largest consumer of Ukrainian forests is Turkey. At the moment, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Resolution № 1362 from November 1, 2015 banned the export of roundwood (raw) outside the customs area of Ukraine for 10 years. This is due to the fact that, in recent years the export of sawn timber and forest-grown significantly in volume, which resulted in a significant reduction in Ukraine’s forest resources.
One of the most important export products from Ukraine takes honey. Its exports in 2015 amounted to about 7.8 million tons. The main consumers of Ukrainian honey are Germany – 68%, USA – 19%, Poland – 5%. Only in January 2016, exports of honey has amounted to 1.8 ths. tons. The prospect of development of this market is very high. Ukraine has all chances to become a world leader in the production and export of high-quality honey.
