Summer Truck Restrictions in Austria: What Carriers Need to Know

The summer season in Europe isn’t just about vacations — it’s also a real challenge for logistics. As in previous years, Austria is introducing weekend driving bans for trucks. And if you’re transporting goods through Austria, this directly affects you.

This is especially relevant for shipments from Ukraine to Austria. Neolit Logistics organizes international deliveries on this route daily, helping clients avoid delays and border issues.

When the restrictions apply

From June 28 to August 30, 2025, every Saturday from 08:00 to 15:00, trucks over 7.5 tons will be banned from driving:

  • On motorway A4 from Schwechat to the Hungarian border (Nickelsdorf) — for transit traffic
  • On roads B178, B320, B179, B181, B182, B177 — in both directions
  • On the Brenner route (A12 and A13 towards Germany) — from 00:00 to 22:00 every Saturday

Who is allowed to drive

There are exceptions. The restrictions do not apply to the transportation of:

  • Perishable goods
  • Live animals
  • Mail
  • Fuel (in emergency cases)
  • Equipment for public events
  • Empty trucks returning to base (before 10:00 on Saturday)

Trucks may also drive if the origin or destination is within the region, provided the driver carries appropriate documentation.

What happens if you violate the ban

  • Fines up to €2,180
  • Temporary vehicle impoundment
  • And most importantly — insurance won’t cover losses caused by downtime

What Neolit Logistics recommends

  • Plan your routes in advance
  • Whenever possible, leave before Friday or after 15:00 on Saturday
  • Consider alternative routes through the Czech Republic or Slovakia
  • And always have the right documents on hand
