Analytical review of the transport industry for 2024

In 2024, the Ukrainian transport industry demonstrated significant progress in several key areas, including freight transportation, infrastructure modernization, and the regulatory framework.

Growth in transportation volumes

Freight transportation achieved a significant result of 146.9 million tons, which is 22% more compared to 2023. This increase is due to a number of factors, including:

  • Increased use of rail transport for long-distance transportation;
  • Expansion of sea transportation through strategic ports;
  • Introduction of new logistics routes and integration with international carriers.

Investments in infrastructure

During the year, there was a significant restoration and development of infrastructure, which contributed to increasing the capacity of the transport network. In particular:

  • 339 km of railway tracks were reconstructed;
  • 8 strategically important bridges were restored;
  • 45 million euros were attracted for the development of border railway infrastructure within the framework of the CEF program.

These measures allowed not only to improve transport accessibility, but also to strengthen the competitiveness of Ukrainian logistics at the international level.

Regulatory and legal achievements

Among the adopted regulatory and legal documents, it is worth highlighting Order No. 290 of April 8, 2024, which introduced amendments to the Rules for Sealing Wagons and Containers. These changes are aimed at increasing transportation safety and simplifying control procedures.

Maritime logistics

Cargo processing in Ukrainian ports reached 91.1 million tons, which demonstrates stability in maritime logistics. Key distribution indicators:

  • 73.4 million tons fall on the Ukrainian corridor through the ports of Greater Odessa;
  • 16.5 million tons – through the Danube ports.

These data indicate the efficiency of using existing logistics corridors and the possibilities for their further expansion.

Road infrastructure

The efficient use of financial resources in 2024 allowed:

  • Repair 64.8 km of roads;
  • Restore 7,016 linear meters of bridges;
  • Complete operational maintenance of 289 artificial structures.

Savings on loan obligations of UAH 1.7 billion were directed to winter maintenance of roads, which ensured uninterrupted traffic even in difficult weather conditions.

Prospects for 2025

Next year, a large-scale distribution of funding is planned:

  • UAH 9.5 billion will be directed to repair and maintenance of roads;
  • Of these, UAH 3.3 billion – to front-line territories, which emphasizes the priority of infrastructure restoration in key regions.

Conclusions

The past year has demonstrated significant progress in Ukraine’s transport sector, particularly in terms of modernization, increased traffic volumes, and regulatory support. These achievements create a solid foundation for further development in 2025 and allow for stable growth rates even in challenging conditions.
