One of the most difficult tasks in the field of transportation is the transportation of large and heavy loads. This task requires the involvement of qualified specialists who can quickly solve unpredictable issues and anticipate risks in advance.
Knowledge in the field of transportation of such cargoes is necessary for both carriers and customers. They help to avoid unforeseen situations and unnecessary expenses.
The Neolit Logistics team, in turn, has prepared recommendations on reducing risks and unforeseen situations during the transportation of large-sized cargo, which we have acquired during 14 years of experience.
1. It is important to check the authenticity of information about the cargo. The information specified in the technical documentation may sometimes not correspond to reality due to the modernization of equipment or devices. It is recommended to measure the dimensions of the cargo, taking into account all additional elements such as canopies and visors.
2. It should also be checked whether the cargo is not a dangerous or a dual purpose product. The used process fluid may be classified as a dangerous substance (ADR), posing a risk to people and the environment during transport. Some cargoes may also fall into the category of dual purpose goods, which requires additional permits and complicates export registration.
3. It is necessary to be prepared for the fact that the cargo may not be transported by the shortest route. Each oversized cargo is unique, so it is necessary to develop an individual delivery scheme. The more non-standard and heavy the cargo, the more limited the number of available ports, vehicles and roads for its transportation. Working out the route takes a lot of time, but detailed planning allows you to get the necessary permits and determine the exact terms of transportation.
4. After the approval of the route, it is necessary to obtain permits for the transportation of large-sized cargoes, to coordinate the traffic schedule with the road services and auto inspections of the countries. Usually, the process of obtaining permits takes several months.
Transportation of oversized and heavy cargo has its own characteristics and requires careful planning. Therefore, it is important to entrust the transportation of this type of cargo only to experienced and reliable partners.
