Air transportation is one of the industries in which Neolit Logistics provides services, so it will be relevant to summarize the work of domestic airports in 2014.
The State Aviation Service reports that passenger traffic at Ukrainian airports in 2014 compared to 2013 decreased to 10.9 million people (by 28%). However, it is important to note here that the accounting of passengers in Simferopol is not taken into account. In this case, the fall is reduced to minus 22.5%, and if we take into account the indicators of the destroyed airports of Donetsk and Luhansk, the fall is reduced to 19%.
The significant decline in the volume of transportation on the Ukrainian air market is very simply explained by the general economic and political domestic situation, namely the decrease in the level of business and tourist activity, the lower purchasing power of the population, as well as the almost complete stoppage of aircraft traffic in the directions to Simferopol, Luhansk and Donetsk.
As for the main air gates of the country, Boryspil airport served 13% fewer passengers in 2014 than in 2013. The figure was 6,890,000 people. The number of aircraft departures also fell by 11%, amounting to 72 thousand. The situation of future Boryspil transportation depends on the events of the country and the condition of the main carrier UIA, whose share in 2014 was 49.8%.
Another capital airport, Zhulyana, suffered much greater losses in 2014. Zhulyany is known to handle domestic passenger traffic. Due to its fall, the passenger flow through Zhulyany fell by 40.7% – to 1.09 million people. The number of flights decreased to 23,711 thousand, representing a 40% drop. Yanair and Fly Vista carriers stopped their transportation/ The base carrier “Wizz Air Ukraine” still helps Zhulyan stay afloat. We would like to remind you that all domestic flights in Zhulyany were transferred to terminal A, which previously served only international flights.
In 2014, Odesa Airport served 19.2% fewer passengers than in 2013. This number was 863.9 thousand men. International flows fell by 21% (up to 693,900 people), domestic – by 11.9% (up to 170,000 people). It should also be noted that the flow on flights to far abroad fell by 8.9%, on domestic flights – by 11%. From the end of December, the so-called Odesa – Ivano-Frankivsk ski flights traditionally began.
In 2014, Lviv Airport served 585,000 tourists and travelers, which was 16.5% less than in 2013. The number of passengers on international flights decreased by 16.8%, amounting to 479.6 thousand people, domestic – by 15% (to 105.6 thousand people).
The Dnipro air gate surprised with a small drop – 1.8% (to 446.8 thousand people). This can be explained by a kind of compensation for the loss of the Donetsk airport, as well as the resumption of the work of the Dniproavia company, which until 2014 acted only as an operator of Aerosvit. However, the airport management is concerned about the escalation of the military confrontation in Donbas, which may result in the possible closure of the airspace over the Dnipropetrovsk region.
In 2014, Kharkiv Airport lost 27.7% of passengers, stopping its indicators at 437.5 thousand people. International cargo flow fell by 32.2% (to 356.6 thousand people), while domestic traffic even increased by 2.3%. This is understandable due to the increase in the load of the domestic flight Kharkiv – Boryspil. Seats on airplanes departing for the capital were also provided due to the cancellation of Aeroflot flights and the reduction of the former intensity of Austrian Airlines flights. As for the Dnipro, there is a threat of closing the airspace.
Despite the disappointing results of other airports, Ivano-Frankivsk Airport showed positive results, which were marked by a slight increase of 1.2% (up to 25,200 passengers).
A positive moment was also the resumption of Kherson airport after a long break. In October, Turkish Airlines started flying from Kherson. In June, it is planned to add flights of this company from 4 to 7 per week. The number of passengers served during the reporting period is still more than modest – 7.9 thousand passengers.
