Romania increases fines for not paying road tax

Romania has increased fines for not paying road tax, which will be actively used from August 2022.

The essence of the law is that the majority of motorists do not pay for using the roads of Romania and, according to President Klaus Iohannis, stricter conditions may encourage violators to pay road tax. Moreover, since 2010, the cost of fines has not increased, while the payment for the fare itself has increased by 20%.

Fines for trucks:

– with a carrying capacity of 3.5 tons (192 – 385 euros);
– carrying capacity from 3.5 tons to 7.5 tons (233 – 628 euros);
– carrying capacity from 7.5 tons to 12 tons (557 – 1,114 euros);
– with a load capacity of 12 tons, with a maximum number of axles 3 (719 – 1,138 euros);
– with a carrying capacity of more than 12 tons, with a minimum of 4 axles (1,205 – 2,410 euros);

The increase in the amount of fines for an offense depended on the fact that over the past 7 years such cases have doubled and reached more than 700 thousand.
